Meet Michael (Mike) Rifenburgh
Michael “Mike” Rifenburgh has proudly called Pleasant Valley home for nearly four decades. He grew up attending Camp Sunnydays, fishing at Huck Finn Day, playing soccer through the town, running around during Pleasant Valley Weekend, and participating in Cub Scouts with Pack 93—ultimately earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
Today, Mike is thrilled to share those same traditions with his two young daughters, alongside his amazing wife, as they enjoy many of the same town-run events that shaped his childhood.
Mike is a Captain for a U.S. airline, and for much of his life, he never envisioned stepping into elected public service. But after years of watching projects stall, town taxes rise without clear returns, and a lack of investment in both recreation and basic infrastructure, Mike knew it was time to get involved. He was driven by a simple mission: to bring transparency, accountability, and common sense back to local government.
It has been an honor for Mike to serve the nearly 10,000 residents of Pleasant Valley. From day one, he set clear goals and made specific promises—and he’s delivered. Mike believes leadership is about action, not talk. He shows up, listens, and gets things done.

During Mikes short tenure on the Town Board, he has achieved significant milestones. Some of the key accomplishments include:
Tax Relief & Fiscal Responsibility

Reduced the town’s tax rate by more than 17% since taking office, providing much-needed financial relief to residents.

Despite economic challenges, worked to successfully cut the town budget below 2022 levels while maintaining and enhancing essential services.

Increased transparency by delivering a detailed presentation of the town’s finances to both residents and the board, helping to address decades of unclear and ambiguous budgeting.
Investing in Infrastructure & Public Spaces

Allocated over $1 million for road paving projects between 2024 and 2025, ensuring safer and more reliable roads.

Invested over $1 million in upgrading our parks and local playgrounds to create better recreational spaces for families.

Broke ground on a long-stalled Town Hall project, completing in 12 months what had been delayed for six years.
Enhancing Services & Transparency

Established a new town website, providing residents with easier access to information and services.

Introduced credit card payment options for town services, offering more convenience for residents.

Implemented agenda management software and upgraded technology to streamline town operations and improve efficiency.

Expanded the use of video recording and live streaming of town meetings to allow more transparency and access for residents.
Community Focused Initiatives

Partnered with the county to install a new, sheltered bus stop, ensuring commuters no longer have to wait in inclement weather.

Expanded recreational programs by investing in recreation and increasing opportunities for youth and families.

Worked tirelessly to restore professionalism, transparency, and trust in our local government.

Introduced a beautification committee to work on improving our hamlets for residents and local businesses.
While we have made tremendous progress, there is still more to be done. I remain committed to advocating for responsible development, supporting small businesses, and ensuring our town continues on a path that supports our families and seniors.
